Terms of use

1. Provider and scope

Carcassist is run free of charge by Tobias Irmer (see legal notice). These terms apply to the planner at carcassist.com/app, the wiki and every file Carcassist creates: parts and cut lists, drawings, order lists, assembly guides and exports such as DXF, STEP, CSV and JSON. By using Carcassist you accept them.

2. Carcassist is a planning aid

Carcassist calculates parts, dimensions, drilling patterns, cutting plans, weights, costs and simple checks from your input and from simplified assumptions, such as estimated board stiffness and density or catalogue values for hardware. The results may be incomplete or wrong, for example because of software errors, wrong input, deviating board thicknesses or changed manufacturer data. Therefore:

• Check dimensions, drilling patterns, quantities and materials yourself before you order material, cut, drill or build.
• The check in Carcassist looks for gross mistakes. It is no proof of load capacity, stability or tip resistance and replaces neither a structural calculation nor expert advice. You are responsible for load-bearing and safety-relevant parts, such as workbenches, heavily loaded shelves, tall cabinets, casters and levelling feet. Secure tall or narrow furniture against tipping.
• For hardware, connectors and fasteners the manufacturers' data and instructions apply. Where they differ from Carcassist, the manufacturers' data takes precedence.
• Costs, sheet counts and weights are estimates, not quotes.
• Use machines and tools according to their manuals and the usual safety rules.

3. Availability and your designs

There is no entitlement to Carcassist being available at any time or permanently. Your designs are stored in your browser and on our server (see privacy policy), but they can still be lost. Keep important designs as a file as well (Export JSON). Anyone who knows the link to a design can open it.

4. Liability

Carcassist is free of charge. We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, for fraudulently concealed defects and under the German Product Liability Act. Otherwise liability is excluded to the extent permitted by law, in particular for slight negligence and for material, working time and consequential damage caused by faulty plans. This also applies to the personal liability of people working for Carcassist.

5. Rights

Your designs and the files created from them belong to you. You may use them freely, including commercially. The software, texts and graphics of Carcassist are protected by copyright.

6. Changes and governing law

We may change these terms for the future; the version at the time of use applies. German law applies. If you are a consumer, the mandatory protective provisions of the country you live in remain unaffected. If a provision is invalid, the rest remain valid.
